The Bureau of Land Mangement must now take more time to review the impact of oil shale development on Colorado.
A bill sponsored by Representative Mark Udall passed in the House last night. It directs the B.L.M. to do more investigating into the environmental impacts of oil shale development and to draft rules and regulations for commercial leasing. The amendment also allows for the Governor and the public to review the report and regulations and come forward with any concerns they might have.
Representative Udall said in a statement the passage of the bill is important because "Coloradans, especially residents of the Western Slope, can say their Congress has listened and will insist that the administration move carefully on oil shale development."
