Family needs donations after father is hit by a semi truck

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)_ Local father Andy Cullen is out of the hospital but has a long way to go, suffering from a traumatic brain injury after being hit by a semi-truck less than a month ago.

Now his family is asking for help and thanking friends and loved ones for their support.

Those who know Andy Cullen describe him as a hard working family man.

"He would give you the shirt off his back," says long-time friend Wayne Winton.

But on July 15th everything changed in an instant for the father of three.

"My husband was in a horrific accident," says Andy's wife Ashley.

Andy was on his way to work as an oil rig mover in Greeley when a semi-collided with his truck. He and two co-workers survived but sustained serious injuries.

"He has a traumatic brain injury...he has months and months to recover."

This weekend friends hosted a benefit lunch in the parking lot on
First and Orchard trying to raise money for Ashley Cullen, who now has to care for the couples three kids.

"You can look around at all the tragedy in the world or you can get up and do something about it and that's what we are doing here," says Winton.

The benefit brought in around $ 1,000 but for loved-ones, a full recovery for Andy is priceless.

Anyone who would like to help the Cullen family can do so by donating to the Andy Cullen fund set up at the Bellco Credit Union.
