High school students who use alcohol to cope with anger may be setting themselves up for a lifetime of alcohol abuse.
Researchers at Penn State studied close to 2,000 high school seniors nationwide, and found nearly three quarters had experimented with alcohol.
18 percent said they drank for multiple reasons, including an inability to deal with frustration. This group was also more likely to drink during the day and get drunk frequently.
Experts say these students are likely to ignore alcohol prevention messages, but if their habit is caught early, they may be taught effective ways to handle frustration.
