After 30 years, Broncos superfan Tim Mckernan is hanging up the barrel. Yep, the barrel man is retiring.
He began wearing the orange aluminum barrel to Broncos games back in 1977 because his brother wanted to be able to spot him on TV.
He's worn it in sub–zero temperatures but says the older he gets the harder it is to handle the cold. A few years ago he suffered a massive aneurysm during a visit to the western slope and spent a lot of time in serious condition at St. Mary's Hospital. Now, following the doctor's advice he's reluctantly calling it quits.
Before Sunday night's Bronco's game Mckernan was honored for his dedication to the team.
