Possible Avalanche Danger After Winds Sweep Though High Contry

The avalanche danger in much of Colorado’s high country is rated as considerable, after a storm that brought extremely high winds to the area.

The storm closed a 60 mile portion of interstate 70 from outside Denver into the mountains on Sunday and Monday, stranding travelers.

Avalanche forecaster Spencer Logan says the winds packed the snow down hard in many places.

So any slide touched off by a skier or snowmobile would likely involve big slabs of snow.
