12th Annual Southwest Arbor Fest

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The 12th Annual Southwest Arbor Fest took place at Lincoln Park all day today.

The annual community event aims to teach kids and families how to protect our earth and vendors were present with renewable resources raising awareness for trees and earth day.

Officials say Grand Junction is home to a large urban forest and it's important that residents are educated when it comes to trees and helping the environment.

"It's the first event of spring, it's great to kind of get everyone out, enjoy trees, understand the importance of arbor day and really celebrate that along with earth day," says Emily Wright of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation.

Close to 6,000 people were estimated to be in attendance. There was also live music, a beer garden and chili cook-off.

KKCO 11 News was part of that event and defended our title for the second year in a row…taking first place for our delicious chili. We appreciate the community’s support!
