An eight-year-old boy is dead after a dump truck rear ended a minivan near Olathe. The Colorado State Patrol is still investigating but says initial reports show the boy might not have been wearing a seatbelt.
The crash happened just before noon on Thursday. Troopers say 43-year-old Cendie Mccracken was driving her van westbound on Highway 50 and stopped at the intersection of Highway 348.
That's when they say a dump truck towing a trailor failed to stop and ran into the back of her vehicle.
The crash sent the van flying through the intersection and into a utility pole.
Mccracken, her 14 year old daughter and one-year-old had to be taken to Montrose Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, but her eight-year-old son didn't make it.
48-year-old Ronald Wilborn was driving the dump truck. He wasn't hurt, but was ticketed for careless driving causing a death.
Troopers are still investigating but say they've ruled out drugs, alcohol and speed.
