Frisbees fly during Disc Golf championships

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) - Frisbees went flying Saturday during the state championships of the Colorado Disc Golf Tournament. The competition kicked off at both the Fruita and Palisade golf courses, with the pros playing in Palisade, and the amateurs competing in Fruita.

Frisbee golf is the same as regular golf, except that it's played with frisbees and chain link baskets that represent the hole. Playing on the pro side were several world champions, who were cheered on by fans from across the country.

"They've come from all over Western Colorado and also United States. We have people from Minnesota. We have them from Oregon. We have them from Santa Cruz, California. We've got them from Taos, New Mexico, and Utah. I think even a New York player is here," says Bill Alderman, assistant director of the tournament.

The tournament continues Sunday. Event organizers encourage anyone who wants to watch to show up at the courses to enjoy the disc golf experience.
