A backcounty skier calls 911 after he digs himself out of an avalanche in the East Vail Chutes. Vail Mountain Rescue with assistance from the Vail Ski Patrol found the second skier buried in the slide. The Skier was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Eagle County Sheriff's Office received the 911 call just before 11:00 a.m. on January 12th. Both skiers were wearing avalanche beacons.
The Vail Public Safety Communications Center was able to pinpoint the longitude and latitude coordinates of the 911 call.
The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of the family.
