It's only a few days into the 2008 Legislative Session, and State Representative Bernie Buescher, (D) Grand Junction, has already fallen victim to an attack, but not from a fellow politician.
"It was a malicious and intentional attack," said Buescher.
Buescher says he is angry and frustrated by what he calls an absolutely unacceptable attack on his website.
While his website is completely clean now, people who search for it on Google over the next few days will likely find a nasty surprise. His name appears on the screen with pornographic descriptions under it.
"Certainly they shouldn't have to deal with this disgusting stuff," said Buescher.
Buescher says he and his team spent nearly five hours working on fixing the problem. He says it was valuable time, he needed to spend elsewhere.
"I lost about a half day," said Buescher. "I would prefer to be working on things like federal mineral lease revenues."
Buescher says his technology team told him this was no simple attack. They say it would take a hacker quite some time to produce the end result. While he's not sure if the hacker purposely went after him, Buescher has no qualms about going after the hacker.
"With enough time and enough effort, we can figure out where it came from," said Buescher.
Buescher says in light of the attack, he hopes to see if state laws prosecuting hackers are up to par, so that something like this doesn't happen again. He also adds that the Google problems should be completely fixed by the end of the weekend.
