Representative Mark Udall is calling on Governor Bill Ritter to join him in holding a Homeland Security summit here in Colorado.
This is in response to an audit earlier this month which criticized Colorado's compliance with crucial Homeland Security Grant Program requirements. The audit found that local security officials failed to meet on a routine basis and did not review federal or state grant applications.
Udall said, "we can't allow mismanagement of federal grants and ineffective organization that threatens our security here in Colorado."
Udall made the same request of formerGovernor Bill Owens back in 2005. Owens would not agree to a summit.
