A Colorado couple has agreed to pay the U.S. $45,000 to avoid a lawsuit over a fire in 2005.
In May of 2005, an escaped campfire torched nearly 60 acres in McInnes Canyon. The United States alleges that it was Richard and Tracie Hulbert's campfire that ignited the wildfire. However, they deny any liability and responsibility, but agreed to pay the thousands of dollars for suppression and rehabilitation costs associated with the fire.
