New 911 system approved by City Council
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -The Grand Junction city council approves a new 911 system that will put our area on the cutting edge of technology.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -The Grand Junction city council approves a new 911 system that will put our area on the cutting edge of technology.
Deputy Police Chief Troy Smith says “ this project may be a model for a state wide network.”
The current 911 network is more than 40 years old, and with technology changing everyday the city says its time for an update.

Grand Junction is now collaborating with other 911 communication systems on the western slope to create one communications network.
Other counties that are part of the network include Garfield, Summit, Pitkin, and Eagle.

The advantage is that Grand Junction will be moving forward with a new technology.
The new system will give Grand Junction greater ways to communicate with the citizens in the feature.

The system approved tonight will be run by the Grand Junction police department in the new public safety facility, but will include more than 20 mesa county agencies.
