If you've got gold jewelry, any gold really, you may be surprised to find that it's worth more than you think.

Last week for the first time ever, the price for one ounce of gold hit $900. This week the U.S. dollar strengthened, causing gold prices to retreat back below $900.

So what's driving the prices? Economics professor Bill Dunkelberg says there are three main reasons: demand, a weak U.S. dollar, and the rising price of oil.
