Xcel officials are trying to figure out what caused an explosion at one of its facilities this afternoon.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon at a natural gas compression station on Baxter Pass, just north of Mack. That station is responsible for pushing the gas further down the pipeline.
An Xcel spokesman says something at the facility exploded yesterday, damaged the facility, and injured one worker. Rescuers airlifted him to Saint Mary's Hospital. Xcel is not releasing the man's name or how badly he was hurt.
Investigators are at the site today, trying to figure out what happened and what caused the explosion.
The company re–routed the gas so there won't be a disruption of service.
