Starting Thursday you can save up to 20% on prescriptions, all you have to do is pick up your county drug card.

The discount is free to all county residents. The program is targeted at helping the many Mesa County residents who don't have health insurance. People with health insurance can also use the card if their insurance company won't cover the cost of prescriptions.

County officials say it's important for them to take this step to help their citizens.

"As we all know, health care costs continue to rise every year and some of these people might be on fixed incomes, and they are looking at prescriptions that can be very expensive to them...so that's why this program, we think will supplement their needs very well," said Assistant County Administrator Stefani Conley.
