Bill to Crackdown on Ticket Tricksters Clears First Hurdle

AP_ A bill prompted in part by the Colorado Rockies' ticket sales meltdown has cleared its first hurdle at the state capitol.

On Wednesday, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee backed a
crackdown on people who trick online sale sites into selling more tickets than allowed. They agreed to make all offenses misdemeanors
rather than hitting second-time offenders with a felony to avoid
having to pay for new prison beds to house offenders.

Prosecutors say the measure will still work because they would
be able to confiscate tickets as well as the buyer's profits.

In addition, each ticket purchased above the site's limit would be a separate offense.
