Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes into Horse

A man has been arrested after driving through a fence and hitting a horse.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Gerardo Macias was driving his girlfriend's Mini Cooper Westbound on E ½ Road when he went drove off the road.

After crashing through the fence, the owners of the horse came out to confront him. That's when Macias fled the scene by crashing through another part of the fence.

Mesa County Sheriff–Deputies caught up with the man and detained him on a dirt road near 34 1/2 and E Roads. Colorado State Patrol arrested him on charges of DUI, criminal mischief and reckless driving.

The horse was injured and will have to have surgery.

Macias is booked in the Mesa County Jail.
