New LDS President Appointed

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints has named a new president.

Monday morning, church officials appointed Senior Apostle Thomas S. Monson as president. He will serve as the 16th president of the 13–million member LDS Church. According to the LDS website, 80–year–old Monson has more than 44 years of church leadership experience.

He will replace Gordon Hinckley who died just over a week ago at the age of 97.
