Police are investigating a parent for theft and fraud after they wrote a bad check for a fundraiser.
Nisley Elementary holds one fundraiser a year to pay for books, extra materials, and field trips but now it's out one thousand dollars.
Investigators say a parent wrote a check for that amount for candy and other items, but it came back for insufficient funds.
School District 51 says it tried to resolve the issue with that parent but couldn't, so it turned the case over police.
Parents at Nisley Elementary say they are shocked.
Police are not releasing the name of the suspect because that person has not been arrested or charged.
Investigators say they have handed the case over to the District Attorney's Office.
