The Federal Government is ordering the recall of 143–million pounds of frozen beef from a California slaughterhouse.

An undercover investigation sparked the recall which is now the largest beef recall to happen in the United States. The Humane Society released the video in January of Hallmark Meat Packing Company in Chino, California.

The organization says workers tortured sick and injured animals so they would get up and appear healthy for slaughter, and then put them into the human food chain.

Some of the recalled beef went to school lunch programs, but no illnesses have been linked to the recalled meat.

The Department of Agriculture says the recall affects beef products from the California company dating back to February first of 2006.

A list of the products being recalled has been posted on the USDA’s web site. Click on the link below to be directed there.
