Grand Valley Power Student of the Week

By  |

Dirk Terpstra of Plateau Valley School spent the majority of the last six weeks working on his high school team's robot.
A robot that will compete in the US First Robotics Competition in March.
Terpstra is the robotics team captain and says he did all the programming for the robot.
“Basically you can take any TV remote and program the infrared sensor so you can run your robot with your TV remote,” says Terpstra.
On his down time, Terpstra likes to snowboard, hike and rock climb. He hopes to summit Independence Peak this summer; as his last attempt fell just short of the top.
Terpstra keeps a grade point average of 4.04, with college courses figured in, and works two jobs. One job is at a local coffee shop and the other is snow removal at Powderhorn Ski Resort.
Terpstra plans on studying physics in college at Montana State and wants to work in sustainable energy as a environmental resources manager.
