Students Pause To Remember Shooting Victims

Dekalb, Ill. (AP) The victims of the shooting at Northern Illinois University are still being remembered.

About 500 people paused for five minutes of silence at 3:06 in the afternoon. That was the exact time a week ago that Steven Kazmierczak opened fire at a lecture hall, killing The students and then himself.

NIU president John Peters told the hundreds gathered at the Martin Luther King Junior commons near Cole hall that the ground is “forever hallowed.''

Bells at the student center and at churches in the area chimed for five minutes.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday evening at the school. Classes are scheduled to resume Monday morning.
