Suspect Says Shooting Was Accident

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has released more information about a weekend shooting that left one man in the hospital and another behind bars.

The shooting took place Sunday morning in the desert near East Orchard Mesa. According to an arrest affadavit, 52-year old Charles Ettinger got into an argument with three other men about property rights, when he grabbed the barrel of his gun and it went off.

26-year-old Steven Dodd was hit in the stomach by a bullet. He's now in serious condition at St. Mary's hospital.

Deputies arrested Ettinger Sunday afternoon. He's being held on a $10,000 bond and is facing charges of first degree assault.
