Two State Lawmakers are Sticking Up for Senior Citizens.

Two state lawmakers are sticking up for senior citizens.

Seniors who have lived in their homes for at least 10 years are allowed to deduct 50 percent of their first $200 thousand in property value.

But state representatives Dorothy Butcher and Ray Rose say it's not fair for them to lose that tax break if they move.

They say some seniors may need to move to a smaller home if they've lost a spouse or can't take care of their home anymore.

They've proposed allowing seniors to keep the exemption if they move just once within the same county.
