The Grand Canyon is getting a good cleaning today and just in time for the spring.
The Department of Interior plans to flood the Grand Canyon today to "scrub" and reshape miles of sandy banks.
The goal is to determine if higher water flow can be used to rebuild eroded beaches that are downstream of the dam by moving the accumulated sand around and onto sandbars.
Sandbars in the Grand Canyon provide habitat for wildlife, serve as camping beaches and supply sand needed to protect archaeological sites.
