Jerusalem (AP) The recent lull in fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants in Gaza has been shattered by a barrage of rocket fire.

The militant Islamic Jihad group fired more than a dozen rockets from Gaza into southern Israel early today after Israeli undercover forces killed one of its west bank leaders.

Israeli security officials say no one was injured in the barrage, but it underscores the fragility of efforts to work out a truce.

The rocket fire was practically a given since militant groups in Gaza have claimed the right to retaliate for Israeli operations in the West Bank.

Israel holds Hamas responsible for today's attacks because it controls the Gaza strip.

A former Israeli Deputy Defense minister says the rockets won't stop until Hamas is toppled.
