The condition of a young man who was in a coma after a head-on crash near Powderhorn has been upgraded to serious.
The crash happened just before 8:30 Friday morning on Highway 65 near milepost 43.
Troopers say Matthew Puntenney of Loveland was driving south on the highway when somehow he ended up in the opposite lane and smashed head-on into Brain Pott’s Subaru.
It took rescuers more than 20 minutes to get Puntenney out of his car. He was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital where he remains in serious condition. Potts received minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by a family member.
Investigators believe the snowy weather may have been a factor in this crash. Charges are pending a full investigation.
