Central High School Teacher Killed in Crash

We're learning more about the victim of a deadly crash on Tuesday.
38–year–old Monique Velazquez was a mother of three and worked as a special education teacher at Central High School.

Her husband told 11 News over the phone she was an amazing woman who was passionate about working with disabled children. He came home Tuesday to find police officers there.

The Colorado State Patrol continues to investigate the head on crash on 32 road. Troopers say it could take up to two weeks but preliminary investigations show 67–year–old Darius Devries of Grand Junction was driving north on highway 141 when his truck, pulling a trailer, started to fish tail. The trailer swung into the southbound lane crashing into
Velazquez's car. Devries was not injured.

Troopers say the Bobcat may not have been secured on the trailor.

A memorial service will be held for Monique Velazquez at Callahan–Edfast Mortuary on Sunday at 11 am.

The family is asking that anyone who would like to help should donate to The Handicapped Children's Fund in her name.

You can contact Callahan–Edfast mortuary at (970) 243-2450
