New York (AP) “With each passing hour, things get a little more grim.''

That’s what New York City’s Fire Commissioner says as rescuers pick through the rubble of a townhouse crushed by a toppling crane as part of the search for three missing people.

Yesterday’s accident killed four construction workers and left two dozen others injured. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says 11 of the injured were first responders. Officials say eight people remain hospitalized.

Crews have removed one section of the 19-story-tall crane. Bloomberg says the largest pieces of debris will have to be removed before rescuers can intensify their search for possible survivors.

The missing people include two other construction workers and a woman who was staying at an apartment in the townhouse. The owner of a tavern on the ground floor says the woman was visiting from Miami and that her friend was rescued.
