McCain says U.S. succeeding in Iraq

Chula Vista, Calif (AP) John McCain, just back from Iraq, says the U.S. is “succeeding” there and needs to remain at full force despite the war's unpopularity.

At a town hall meeting in Chula Vista, California, McCain spoke of a recent audio tape from Osama Bin Laden in which he urges followers to join the Al-Qaida fight in Iraq. The Al-Qaida leader also called Iraq “the greatest opportunity and the biggest task.”

Mccain says he agrees with Bin Laden on the importance of Iraq and doesn't believe the U.S. should pull some troops from there to concentrate forces in Afghanistan.

On another matter, McCain says he disagrees with a proposal that would take medical facilities out of the control of the Veterans' Administration.
