"I went behind the couch and cut my own hair," says Katrice Wilcox remembering when she was just a young girl with dreams of being a hair stylist. Wilcox is a senior at Plateau Valley School and says her favorite subject is art. "To me cosmetology is an art and that way I can express it all the time, there is always something new to learn. That's why I love it so much," says Wilcox.
Wilcox is planning on going to North Carolina to earn her cosmetology degree and then work at a hair salon with her sister. Wilcox said she spent her spring break helping around the salon and received a lot of good feedback about her work.
Growing up in Collbran, Wilcox says she is looking forward to experiencing new places. She even wants to open up her own hair salon on the beach in Hawaii.
Wilcox has a grade point average of 3.7 and is the president of the National Honor Society at Plateau Valley.
