The Mesa County Coroner's Office has ruled the death of a slain woman's baby a homicide.
The Coroner's Office says 2 day old Maria Macias died after being removed from life support at St. Mary's Hospital on April 1. The office says the cause of death is intrauterine hypoxia, or decreased availability of oxygen.
Maria's mother, Anna Macias, was shot Sunday March 30 in the neck. Macias died and Maria was delivered via an emergency cesarean. The coroner says the infant was not directly injured by the gunshot wound but did die as a consequence of Macias's injuries.
Lonnie Herrera is being held on a $2 million bond for the death of Anna Macias. Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger has told 11 News in the past that the coroner ruled Maria's death a homicide he would file additional charges.
