Wine Producing Bill Moves Forward

Making wine in Colorado could get a lot cheaper.

This morning, the House unanimously passed a bill allowing winemakers to share production equipment.

Before today, that equipment could only be used by one winemaker at a time, forcing wineries to spend thousands to millions of dollars on their own equipment.

Local enologist Stephen Menke says the possible change in legislation could be good for the industry. He says it would allow wineries to share costs and use production premises more efficiently.

The bill is sponsored by local Representatives Bernie Buescher (D) and Josh Penry (R).

Small vineyards are likely to benefit most.
