Sheriffs: Marine Murder Suspect's Wife Refused His Pleas For Help

Jacksonville, N.C. (AP) Prosecutors in North Carolina say the wife of a marine charged with murdering a pregnant colleague refused his pleas for help as he hid from authorities in Mexico.

Onslow County sheriff's Captain Rick Sutherland says Cesar Laurean repeatedly asked his family and his wife Christina for resources after he fled in January to Mexico.

He was arrested in the western Mexico town of Tacambaro last night after a three-month international manhunt. Sutherland said cooperation from Christina Laurean helped authorities track her husband down.

Laurean is charged with murder in the death of Marine Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach, who had accused him of rape. Her burned remains were found in January in the backyard of his home near Camp Lejeune.
