Tasers To Be Standard Issue To All G.J.P.D. Officers

In an effort to calm trust and accountability issues within the Grand Junction Police Department Tasers will soon become a standard issue weapon for all officers. Wednesday night, the Grand Junction City Councilmembers unanimously voted to provide the department with an additional 42 tasers, bumping its total up to 68.

Previously, officers had to check out Tasers before their shift
and during the department's recent focus group study officers felt that going through this process showed a lack of trust from the command staff.

Chief Greg Morrison says assigning a Taser to each officer will resolve the trust issue and enhance officer accountability.
The total cost of for the Tasers will be in excess of $37,000,
which will be taken out of the general fund contingency and police seized funds.
