AP_ Drivers could be charged an extra $25 to register their cars and trucks under a plan to raise money for the state's highways and bridges.
A bill made public Friday would tack the charge onto vehicle registration fees. Drivers would pay an extra $15 to register a trailer. The proposal would also impose a $6–a–day fee on rental cars
starting next year.
It's a last–ditch effort to find the estimated $500 million needed for the state to keep up with maintenance projects on existing highways.
Earlier this year, Gov. Bill Ritter floated the idea of a $100 registration fee.
