Volunteers Help Rid the Colorado River of Trash

Mesa County, Colo. (AP) Volunteers cleaning the Colorado river this week found an assortment of trash sometimes too large to carry.

The volunteers say the things they find in the river each year include tires, plastic bottles, and pieces of plastic foam. They've even found a kitchen sink, a shopping cart and an old car fender.

The cleaning is part of the 4th annual Colorado river Spring Cleaning, organized by the Western Association for The Enjoyment of Rivers. The WATER club and a local boy scout troop also aided in the trash-removal efforts.

The trash will be hauled off to the Mesa County landfill.
