Undated (AP) The Los Angeles Lakers are getting some much-needed rest after sweeping the Denver Nuggets 107-101 to reach the NBA western conference semifinals against either Utah or Houston.

Kobe Bryant scored 31 as the Lakers finished the sweep on the Nuggets home court. Bryant was huge down the stretch, scoring 14 in the final 6 minutes. Pau Gasol added 21 for L.A. this is the Lakers' first playoff sweep since beating New Jersey in the 2002
NBA finals, the last time they won it all.

The Lakers might be pulling for the Jazz in the next round. They were 3-and-1 in the regular-season against Utah, but just 1-and-2 against the Rockets.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets have the distinction of being the first team to win 50 games in the regular season to get swept in the first round of the playoffs.
