Siloam Springs, Ark. (AP) An Arkansas man who saved a 10-year-old boy trapped in storm debris today says he didn't realize that the boy's sister was less than a foot away – killed when a tree sliced through the bedroom of the children's mobile home.
The 15-year-old girl who died had been in the top bunk of a bunk bed. Her brother was in the lower bunk. When the tree fell, it crushed the bed and pinned her brother under it. He survived with minor injuries.
The rescuer, Chad Tilghman, lives across the street. He says the storm struck with little warning.
In all, seven people were killed in Arkansas by the storm system that brought tornadoes and heavy winds across the nation's midsection overnight. Homes and businesses were damaged in the Kansas City, Missouri, area, and twisters were reported in Texas and Oklahoma.
