GRAND JUNCTION - After an entire season, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title came down to just one game. Mesa State entered Sunday's game with Metro state, having won the first three games of the weekend series, but still needing one more for the first three to matter. For the Mavericks, the outcome of Sunday's game was never in question.
Mesa state jumped out to a 12-0 lead behind the bat of Mike Provencher and the arm of Jason Fronczak in route to a 15-6 win and their fourth consecutive RMAC title.
The win completed an improbable sweep of the Roadrunners who came to Grand Junction needing just one win to wrap up the RMAC regular season championship.
Provencher was the all-star of the series. He hit four home runs and drove in 11 rbi over the weekend.
With the win, Mesa State earns the right to host the conference tournament which kicks of on Wednesday at Suplizio Field.
