It took a 120 ton crane and more than 600 feet of cable to remove a car from the bottom of Red Canyon in the Colorado National Monument yesterday.

The car has been in the canyon since October 30th of last year.

Crews attempted to recover the car three times but had to cancel because of weather conditions.

The operation closed Rimrock Drive at Red Canyon, causing residents of Glade Park to use Little Park Road for the day.

Park officials closed the east entrance to the monument while the crane made its way down.
