The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a woman, whose body was found in an drainage ditch.

Authorities say around 6:30 this morning, several people noticed a truck in a ditch near the intersection of 27 1/2 Road and B 1/4 Road. As they approached the truck to investigate, they say they saw a woman lying face down in the shallow water and immediatlely called 911.

Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene shortly thereafter. The woman, who is described as being in her mid 40s and from the Grand Junction area, was pronounced dead by the Mesa County Coroner.

At this point, officials say her death appears to be an accident, and that they don't know if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Deputies believe the woman was the driver of the truck, but say they don't think she was involved in a car accident, and that the truck somehow backed into the ditch.

The woman's body has been turned over to the Mesa County Coroner's office to determine an official cause of death.
