A fire at a Grand Junction home causes tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage and sends one man to the hospital.

The fire broke out just before 2:00 Saturday morning in the 400 block of 29 Road.

When firefighters arrived, they say the 60-year-old man living in the home was trying to battle the flames with a garden hose.

Officials say firefighters had a difficult time extinguishing the blaze because the heat, smoke, and a large number of objects in the house prevented them from getting inside right away.

Crews were able to control the fire about 25 minutes after they arrived, but not before it took it's toll.

Officials say damage to the home is estimated at $85,000. They also say the man who lives in the home was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and minor burns before being transported to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
