Deputies have arrested a teen accused to trying to steal a jeep and say he confessed to doing it.
Derek Nash is facing felony charges of first degree burglary, auto theft, and criminal mischief.
According to an arrest affidavit, the 19-year-old only vaguely remembers trying to steal the jeep and crashing it. Deputies say Nash had been at a party and when he couldn't find a ride home, he tried to steal a jeep from a nearby garage.
When Nash saw the owner of the car walk out into the garage, he slammed on the gas, hit another jeep in the driveway, crashed into a tree and rolled the jeep.
Deputies say they were able to track Nash using a hat he left at the crime scene. They also found his cell phone.
He is being held at the Mesa County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
