Grand Junction will be heating up and we're not talking about the weather.

For Memorial Day weekend, C-DOT, the Colorado State Patrol. and local law enforcement agencies will be stepping up DUI patrols for five days starting on Friday. They'll have extra manpower focusing on "hotspots" - areas with high DUI accidents and arrests, lots of traffic or areas with a lot of bars and restaurants.

The Grand Junction Police Department will have several additional officers conducting DUI patrols this weekend along North 1st Street to 29 road. Police are targeting this area because it is a thoroughfare used for local nightclubs.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office will have extra deputies on patrol this weekend on I-70B from North avenue to 32 Road. The Sheriff’s Office is targeting this area as a Heat Hot Spot again because of it’s proximity to local nightlife.
