White House (AP) President Bush is heading to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, today to welcome troops home from Iraq.

The president will be taking part in “All American Week” at the post, which is the home of the famed 82nd Airborne Division.

Today's review ceremony is a chance for Bush to thank returning troops and to say that the “surge”, which was led by the 82nd, has succeeded.

Bush will again urge congress again to pass a no-strings war funding bill.

Senate votes on the 165 billion dollar measure are expected today. In a bipartisan compromise last night, leaders agreed to hold separate votes on Bush's request for money for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and on a proposal to greatly expand veterans'
education benefits.

The move could doom billions of dollars that democrats had sought for other domestic programs, including additional unemployment benefits.
