It took 39 people with Mesa County Search and Rescue and the Grand Junction Fire Department to pull an injured hiker to safety.

At about one o'clock Saturday afternoon rescuers were called out to the Bangs Canyon Recreation Area.

They say a man was hiking with a group when he fell 30 feet off a cliff and broke his leg.

Rescuers used a rope system and sled to raise him out of the canyon safely.

Care Flight landed in the area and took the unidentified man to St. Mary's Hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time.
