Officials have identified a young swimmer that was killed Saturday in the potholes area of Glade Park.

According to the Mesa County Coroner's Office, Stephen F. Burns II drowned in the potholes just before noon.

Authorities say the 19–year–old Littleton man was trying to rescue a friend from drowning when he got sucked under by the current and dragged down some steep grades.

A 17 person team with Mesa County Search and Rescue was called out to recover his body.

Officials urging folks to stay away from the potholes saying they are extremely dangerous at this time.

Snow melt in the area is causing water levels to rise and the water is cold and swift. According to the National Weather Service over the next couple of days rivers and streams are expected to peak because of a warming trend.
