Denver (AP) The Marine Corps has confirmed that a serviceman arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child in 2001 had run the toys for tots program in the Denver suburb of Aurora in 2007.

Gunnery Sgt. Kelly Farrington was arrested in San Diego last week on a warrant issued in Arvada, another Denver suburb. Arvada Police spokeswoman Susan Medina says the alleged assault was reported only recently.

Marine Spokesman Capt. Nathan Braden confirmed Monday that Farrington was in charge of a local Toys for Tots program in Aurora last year. The program collects and distributes toys for children.

Farrington is being held the San Diego jail, but authorities there have declined to relay a message to him seeking comment. It's not known whether he has an attorney.
